Chris Bell & Bells Moving and Storage
COMPANY HISTORY
Chris Bell & Bells Moving and Storage has been moving families throughout Tasmania and mainland Australia for a number of years.
The company was originally known as Auto Carriers Pty Ltd (the founding company) and was established in 1923 by Mr Arthur Hay, a well respected Hobart gentleman.
The company was the first delivery business to deliver parcels using an automobile within the Hobart area.
The company for many years delivered packages and parcels for large department stores
within Hobart.
In 1978 Linley Bell and his wife Leonie Bell purchased Auto Carriers Pty Ltd and expanded the business to include courier work - Prestige Couriers and Furniture Removals - Bells Moving and Storage.
The company sold its parcel and courier division in the late 80's to concentrate more on the removal division.
Linley had previous experience in the furniture removal field. He first started with his father-in-law in the late 50's, and later worked as Operations Manager for Ipec and Greens Removals
and Storage.
Linley's son Chris worked with his father for a number of years prior to starting his own company Chris Bell Removals with his wife Jane. Their company specialised in interstate removals.
In 2003 Linley and Leonie and Chris and Jane merged their businesses to create Chris Bell & Bells Moving and Storage.
