MAKING YOUR MOVE SAFER
Making your move safer
We are committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our staff and any people who may be affected by our organisation’s operations.
The role of our furniture removalist in particular requires most of our employees to work in changing environments where a considerable amount of physical manual handling takes
place. We place great importance on ensuring our people are protected from injury.
How you can help to make your move safer
- When you first obtain a quotation or book your removal which has been unseen, please identify with our estimator or customer service office any particular circumstances which may be hazardous. Steep driveways, unsealed paths, building renovations, internal staircases etc where items of furniture may have to be moved.
- When packing think about the weight in each box. Don’t pack a carton so heavy that it can’t be lifted safely. Cartons should be limited to approximately 20kgs. Remember, the heavier the item, the smaller the box. Check out our information on basic manual handling tips. To view click here
- Ensure that rooms are uncluttered, tidy and have enough space for our removalists to work safely in.
- Don’t move equipment or large items that should only be moved by a removalist. We have special equipment to handle these awkward items.
- Think you’re helping by unpacking your cupboards ready for our pre-packer?? Not really. Please leave items which are to be professionally packed where their home is. Our packers work directly from cupboards, wall units to the area they are working in. This way they have more available space to work from and they are able to give their body a break from a continual ‘bend over’ position.
- If you are packing whilst our removalists are loading…… think about where you are placing the boxes. Are they being placed in a high traffic area?? Avoid cluttering thoroughfares, corridors and passage ways with boxes or articles to be moved. Make an area a temporary storage area in advance and advise our removalists.
- If you have small children (who get really excited and inquisitive on removal day) and also pets, please ensure they are kept free from where our removalists are working. It’s really hard for our removalists to see them when they are moving large items of furniture. Click here to view moving with children information.
- Don’t leave packing and organising your tasks until the last minute. It will leave you stressed, burnt out and pretty fragile when our removalists arrive. Avoid the mad dash and the stress factor - plan as much as possible and seek advice and help from our customer service staff.
- Please refer to our goods not for removal information page for articles we are unable to transport on your behalf.
- Ensure that there is a clear path prior to our removal team arriving. Overgrown bushes and gardens can be hazardous. There is also a risk of scratching of your furniture by overgrown garden shrubs where we are unable to tie them back whilst carrying out your removal. Therefore, we suggest bushes are trimmed near access points. Why not phone a gardening franchise for assistance.
We have a duty of care to provide as far as reasonably practicable a safe working environment for our employees.
We may refuse to carry out any work which may put the safety of our people at risk. We will as much as possible negotiate with you a satisfactory outcome to carry out your requirements if safety becomes a concern with your job.
